The financial implications of becoming a consultant lawyer can feel intimidating. Understandably, the question we get asked the most is: will I earn enough at nexa to meet my commitments and support my family?
While the freedom, flexibility and culture of a new model law firm is attractive, we understand that none of that matters if the figures don’t add up!
Our charges
At nexa, we offer a market beating package of support to our consultants, including full access to Practical Law, SRA authorisation, COLF and COPA functions, file storage, case management, invoicing and credit control, full IT support, registered office and mail management, marketing, meeting rooms and professional space for your practice on the nexa website, and we’re totally transparent about how we charge for this.
Click here for a full description of everything that’s included in the nexa package for our consultants.
Our charges range from 25% of earnings to 15% of earnings; the more fees you generate the lower the percentage you pay. There is no limit on what you can earn. To find out exactly how much you could earn, see the calculator on our website: https://www.nexa.careers/calculator/
The are NO hidden costs in the small print, this really is all you will pay. In particular,
- We don’t charge a set-up fee – all you need to get started are your own laptop/PC and smart phone.
- We don’t ask for an indemnity against insurance excesses.
- We work on a non-exclusive basis, so you can do whatever else you want to.
How do the numbers stack up?
Many lawyers will bring clients with them but there are other ways to generate income as a consultant lawyer such as doing holiday cover, locum work and referrals.
You could earn referral fees of either 15% or 25% depending upon the circumstances of the referral and the way in which the work is subsequently carried out.
You will also receive a percentage of any fees billed by other consultants that you bring in to nexa.
You’re not on your own
We know that making the move to an alternative career structure seems daunting. We can help you make the transition to becoming self-employed as smooth as possible with our financial support package, nexa assist, to support you through the start-up period.
For consultants who make the jump, the opportunities for a more lucrative future are clear to see.
