NexaConnex: how does it work? Law Firm Client Stories
NexaConnex is our legal support service for law firms. For more detail about this service, see our blog: What is NexaConnex?
Since launching last year, we’ve been really busy helping our law firm clients meet all sorts of challenges – from skills shortages to capacity pressures through to covering staff absence, we’ve tailored our support to their needs and delivered high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
Here are some recent client stories we’d like to share:
White labelled support with a Nexa lawyer available on demand for particular matters or projects and appearing as if an employee of the firm
Our client is a full-service law firm in the South East. A combination of short-term pressures, including planned parental leave and an upturn in instructions from established clients, meant it risked having to turn instructions away because it didn’t have enough staff to cover all the work. Directly recruiting extra resource was not a practical or economical option.
We were able to provide lawyers where needed across a number of specialisms to support both ongoing and new transactions. Our team supporting this client has grown as additional capacity and specialisms have been required. We are now working with their corporate, commercial property and litigation teams.
Outsourced support acting for the firm but without the need for a Nexa lawyer to have contact with the law firm’s underlying client
Our client was a niche city firm specialising in high value international litigation. A surge in complex instructions meant their team was thinly stretched and turning away work was a real possibility.
We provided a senior litigation lawyer, to work with the client “on demand”, under the supervision of their head of department. In addition, we provided the law firm with access to AI powered e-discovery software from one of our collaborators, Luminance. This enabled the client to streamline their disclosure processes.
Secondment support with a Nexa lawyer working with the law firm remotely 3 days per week
Our client was the quality firm, Thomson, Snell & Passmore, the oldest law firm in the world no less. Although they had recruited a new joiner for their Risk and Compliance team there was a gap before they could join. The firm required a solicitor to support its own internal risk and compliance matters to avoid delays and a backlog of work accumulating.
We committed a lead lawyer to assist three days a week, and two juniors, as required. This provision could be scaled up or down on two weeks’ notice.
“They have been very easy to work with, seamless in terms of management of work, supportive and engaging with all staff and give practical commercial advice”. Sarah Henwood, CEO, Thomson, Snell & Passmore.
Secondment support with several Nexa lawyers working remotely both part time and full time
Law firms often struggle with fulfilling secondment requests for large corporate clients such as banks; these can put a real strain on a firm’s associate resources and be difficult to price accurately. However, there are obvious client relationship benefits, so law firms understandably want to fulfil such requests, if at all possible.
Our client was an international law firm. We provided three financial services lawyers for 6-month secondments (with flex to extend) to the in-house legal team at Emirates National Bank of Dubai. Our lawyers work within the Bank’s in-house team, where they have a direct reporting line.
This took the pressure off our client and provided the bank’s General Counsel with certainty, the right skill set and reassurance regarding quality.
“They are agile, responsive and great value for money, and, most importantly, think like business people, not just academic lawyers.” Simon Copleston, Group General Counsel, Emirates NBD Bank
