Thinking about joining Nexa? Our People & Systems Manager can help you make an informed decision
We know it’s a big leap; coming out of private practice or an in-house role and radically changing the way you work by going it alone as a self-employed consultant solicitor. Naturally, people want to do their due diligence before making such a big decision.
Here at Nexa, our knowledgeable and approachable People and Systems Manager David is on hand to make sure that potential consultant lawyers have all the information they need to make a fully informed decision about taking control of their career and becoming self-employed.
David is always available to talk confidentially to anyone who is thinking about working differently and joining the Nexa platform. There’s no obligation and absolutely no hard sell – we’re just happy to talk because we are pretty passionate about how we do things here at Nexa.
David is clearly very good with people – in the last two years he has helped recruit over 150 lawyers to Nexa, growing our consultant base to where we are today. He is therefore ideally placed to share the most common questions (and answers) people ask him about joining Nexa.
Why should I join Nexa?
There is a pretty long list of positive reasons, including: freedom to work the way you want to, a market leading fee-share and excellent referral incentives. All the administrative burdens dealing with regulation, compliance, insurance and billing matters are taken care of by Nexa. Consultants are provided with secure IT support and we are proud of our supportive healthy culture – as a community of open-minded professionals we collaborate and help each other – there is no hierarchy or politics at work.
How much of my billed income will I retain?
It depends what you do, for conveyancers it’s 65% and for other areas of law it’s 75% to start with, plus an annual bonus ratchet for high performers. The more you bill, the more you get to keep. To find out more, check out our income calculator.
There is no limit on how much you can earn and our fee structure is totally transparent.
How much experience do I need?
Ideally, we look for 6 years PQE but, we’re flexible and happy to consider other forms of experience to support your application – we never rule out strong candidates with less than that.
How do I set up as a consultant with Nexa?
Talk to David by phone or email and get details of our recommended accountants and other preferred suppliers to help set up a personal services company and establish your own legal brand (if you haven’t already) or you can set up on your own (in an individual capacity). It really is very simple after that, just follow our easy online application and onboarding process. https://www.nexa.careers/join-nexa-law/apply-online/
What support does Nexa provide?
We take care of all the compliance, admin and finance with our dedicated and reliable full-time back-office support team.
We give you access to a cloud-based practice management system, a Microsoft office 365 suite and document management system as well as providing you with 24/7 IT support, legal know-how and precedents. We provide access to virtual assistants, paralegals, interns and other lawyers at hourly rates and can introduce you to our marketing and other preferred suppliers. All our consultants have access to our WeWork offices.
Our executive team is easily accessible and highly responsive to support you every step of the way as you establish your legal business and beyond.
Are there any start-up fees?
No, there are no start-up fees. All you’ll need is your own mobile phone, laptop and internet connection, plus an annual practising certificate from the SRA, that’s it.
What areas of law does Nexa cover?
All and any areas! Many of our consultants have very successful niche practices as well as doing more generalist work. See our recent blog: Meet Nexa’s “nichers”. If you have a specialism we don’t yet cover, we’d love to hear from you.
